A PRACTICE DESIGNED FOR LONG-TERM GROWTH

why therapists join the sterling group

Many therapists enter private practice searching for flexibility, but stay searching for mentorship, community, stability, and support. We intentionally built The Sterling Group to offer both.

Our clinicians receive:

  • ongoing supervision and consultation,

  • hands-on administrative support,

  • strong referral flow,

  • collaborative team culture,

  • freedom to develop clinical specialties,

  • and space to grow into the therapist they want to become.

We believe excellent therapy happens when therapists themselves feel supported, challenged, and connected.

our culture

Four women standing outdoors, smiling, with trees in the background.

We care deeply about culture fit because the quality of our team directly shapes the quality of care we provide.

At The Sterling Group, we value clinicians who are:

  • collaborative rather than isolated,

  • curious rather than rigid,

  • open to feedback,

  • relationship-oriented,

  • self-aware,

  • and invested in continuous growth.

We believe:

  • direct communication builds trust,

  • mentorship matters,

  • accountability and compassion can coexist,

  • and strong clinicians are developed — not just hired.

This is a practice for therapists who want to keep evolving.

SUPERVISION & PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

we take clinical growth seriously.

We believe supervision should be thoughtful, engaged, and growth-oriented — not performative.

Pre-licensed clinicians receive weekly individual supervision, collaborative consultation, and ongoing support as they work toward licensure.
Fully licensed clinicians continue receiving bi-weekly individual consultation, case collaboration, and professional development support.

We want therapists to feel challenged, supported, and continually expanding their clinical confidence.

COMPENSATION + BENEFITS

we believe transparency builds trust.

Compensation varies based on licensure level, caseload, and clinical experience. Typical ranges with a full caseload include: $70k-85k+ for pre-licensed clinicians, and $90k-110k+ for fully-licensed clinicians.

Additional benefits include:

  • W2 employment

  • Health, dental, + vision insurance

  • Paid time off

  • 401(k) with matching

  • Professional development reimbursement

  • Administrative pay

  • Flexible scheduling

  • Full admin support: marketing, intake scheduling, billing, etc.

  • Interest in collaborative, growth-oriented private practice work

diversity + inclusion

We are committed to building an inclusive practice that reflects and serves our diverse community. We strongly encourage applications from LGBTQIA+ clinicians, clinicians of color, and therapists from historically underrepresented backgrounds.

The Sterling Group Story

The Sterling Group was founded by me, Lindsay (Wasserman) Goldfarb, in January of 2018. I started my solo private practice working with young adults in the DC area. I quickly found that many of my clients echoed my own experiences searching for a therapist in my 20s and 30s; it was not easy to find a therapist who really understood them and what it was like to navigate being a young adult in today’s world. My practice filled quickly with college students and young professionals looking for a different and more relatable, authentic therapy experience.

However, I found being in private practice to be quite lonely… and that was before the pandemic hit! Not only was I feeling more isolated than ever, but the need for mental health support among young adults was skyrocketing in 2020. In 2021, I decided to bring on more therapists to join my team in order to meet this increasing need and to create a collaborative work environment where like-minded therapists can do the work we love while getting the support we need to stay healthy, connected, and growing in an increasingly challenging helping profession.

Prior to starting a private practice, I spent the first decade of my career working in community mental health at various agencies in NYC. As much as I loved the work, my colleagues, and the clients I was serving, I often found myself feeling burnt out due to being overworked and undervalued. I founded The Sterling Group with a mission of creating a community where both clients AND therapists feel safe, welcomed, and valued! For therapists, this means being valued not just for their professional and clinical expertise, but in all ways — we are human beings first who have physical, emotional, and financial needs. Our team is proud to have cultivated a work environment and compensation package that allows our team to put their own needs first and prioritize self-care and a healthy work-life balance in order to fully show up for our clients in a consistent, sustainable way.

I’ve brought on amazing therapists who have the same passion for supporting young adults but different training, skills, and expertise from myself. They are invested in the growth of the practice and each other, and with open feedback and communication, together we’ve built something incredible. We have created a unique, positive, supportive and no-drama therapy practice. The Sterling Group is an amazing team that I fully trust, caseloads full of the clients we each want to serve, and we are constantly growing and expanding our reach and ability to support young adults in the DC community.
